Lunafliks: Whistler's Fresh Air Films
Enjoy outdoor films under the stars every other Wednesday in July and August at Lost Lake Park. Moonlit feature films are preceded by lakeside entertainment: Sunset BBQ, DJs, popcorn and PechaKucha Mini presentations.
Gates open at 8:30, films begin at sundown (approx. 9:30PM). Entry is $7, or $5 with a LUNA card.
Music
LUNA selects emerging DJs and musicians to play ambient music for the masses. Many of these DJs have gone on to hold their own nights at local clubs.
Sunset BBQ
The Rotary Club of Whistler Millennium will fire up their barbeque to offer a veggie or meat item from the grill with drink for $5, along with sweet treats for sale. This group is part of the worldwide network of Rotary International, a humanitarian service organization that has made polio eradication its top philanthropic goal. Every purchase at the BBQ station helps to raise funds for their End Polio Now project.
Popcorn
Don’t miss the Jiffy Pop station, where you get to pop your own popcorn in a self-contained popping pan. So much fun and just $3. Thanks to Nesters Market for sponsoring the popcorn.
PechaKucha mini
LUNA has partnered with PechaKucha Whistler to bring this hot 20 X 20 show outdoors in July and August. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for ‘chit‐chat’, PechaKucha is a mix of show‐and‐tell and open mic night, using a presentation format based on a simple idea: 20 images for 20 seconds. It is now taking place in just under 400 cities around the world. Lunafliks PechaKucha mini will feature two presenters per night, with local people chit-chatting, enlightening and inspiring.
Feature films
Lunafliks features edgier films, most of them independent and not previously screened in Whistler. Over the past eight years features like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Donnie Darko, Run Lola Run, City of God, Hedwig & the Angry Inch, This is England, Paprika, Shambhala the Movie and Sin Nombre have adorned the giant Lunafliks screen to the magnificent Sharp’s Audio-Visual sound system.
